The best love story of the Olympics might have played out in the final of the mixed doubles tennis bracket.
Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac hugged and kissed upon winning gold for Czechia in the event on Friday night, a notable development considering the two had, according to local media, broken up in July after dating for four years.
After their thrilling 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 tiebreaker victory for gold, their relationship status remains unclear.
That’s our personal life, so you don’t need to know that,” Siniakova told reporters, laughing, when asked if they were still together. “We like when you are confused.”
Siniakova, a doubles specialist, has an impressive track record with nine Grand Slam titles and two Olympic gold medals, the first of which she won in women’s doubles in Tokyo with Barbora Krejcikova. She also secured the French Open title this June with Coco Gauff.
“We are such professionals that we broke up precisely so we could fully concentrate on this medal,” Siniakova joked. “We succeeded, and we will see what happens after that.”

“I always like to represent my country, like in the Davis Cup or especially at the Olympics,” Machac said. “For me, it’s something special. To achieve something like this is … I think my head right now is not getting it.
I’m just really enjoying it. For me, it’s special to achieve it with Kate because it’s something that is not usual.”
