Kate Middleton completes chemotherapy and shares heartfelt message about cancer journey

Middleton announced her cancer diagnosis in March

he Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has shared the uplifting news that she has completed her chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

In a moving statement released by Kensington Palace, the 42-year-old royal opened up about the challenging journey she and her family have faced over the past nine months

Kate first announced her cancer diagnosis in March and revealed she would undergo preventative chemotherapy.

She stepped away from public life to focus on her recovery, but today’s announcement brings hope and optimism for the future.

The Princess reflected on her experience, calling it “incredibly tough” and noting how it changed her life in an instant.

She spoke about navigating the “stormy waters” of cancer and the unpredictable nature of the journey, not just for herself but for her loved ones.

In a video message, Kate described her path through treatment as both complex and humbling, giving her a new perspective on life.

She emphasized the importance of simple, yet often overlooked, things such as love and family, which became a source of strength throughout her recovery.

Despite the difficulties, Kate’s message was one of hope and gratitude. While her treatment has ended, she acknowledged that her full recovery will take time and that her primary focus is now on staying cancer-free.

Kate has made a few public appearances this year, including at Trooping the Colour in June and Wimbledon in July, where she received a standing ovation.

She is expected to participate in some public engagements later this year, such as Remembrance events in November and her Christmas carol concert, though it is unclear whether she is officially cancer-free.

Kate’s statement in full

“As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” she said.

“The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.

“The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you.

“With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.

“This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.

“Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.

“I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.

“Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.

“William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time. Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling.

“To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey – I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”
