Patrick Mahomes was reduced to tears after the Las Vegas Raiders beat the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day in Week 16 of the NFL season.
The Chiefs lost the game by six points in a surprising 20-14 loss, their sixth defeat of the season and fourth since their Week 10 bye.
It marks a terrible run of form for the defending Super Bowl champions who lead the AFC West by two wins over the Raiders, Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers.
Their lack of effective receivers has been laid bare for all to see, despite a good season by Rashee Rice and possessing talent such as Travis Kelce, meaning that Mahomes is struggling for options to pass to. That’s clearly having an impact on the football star.
A video showed a teary-eyed Mahomes watching his defense from the sideline as the Raiders led by six with 48 seconds left of the fourth quarter, but he senses the need to remain mentally focused on the two games they have left of the season.
“All you can do is move onto the next game and next day,” Mahomes said to Charles Goldman. “I still believe we can go do what we want to do.
“If we don’t (clean it up), we’ll be going home (in the playoffs).”
Mahomes wasn’t alone in his emotions as the Chiefs’ Travis Kelce angrily launched his helmet into the ground at the Arrowhead Stadium and required an intervention, whilst Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes looked quite upset watching from the executive boxes.
Patrick’s wife had her hands over her mouth in horror at the game whilst Swift offered a comforting touch on the shoulders, but remained thin-lipped as they donned Christmas gear.
