Prince William performs key royal duty in Princess Kate’s absence

Prince William has performed a key royal duty in absence of his cancer-stricken wife Kate Middleton.

Future King William welcomed Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan to the UK on Tuesday.

The Prince and Princess of Wales social media accounts shared the delightful photo of William with the foreign dignitaries, captioning: “An honour to welcome Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan to the UK this morning.”

William formally welcomed the couple to the UK on behalf of the King.The heir to the British throne met the royal visitors at their London hotel before escorting them to Horse Guards Parade, where Charles and Queen Camilla rolled out the red carpet to receive them with a ceremonial welcome.

However, cancer-stricken Kate Middleton and Princess Anne, who’s hospitalized due to head injury after an unfortunate incident, will miss the state banquet following their treatments.

Naruhito and his wife Masako touched down in Essex on Saturday and have undertaken a series of private engagements since then, but today marks the first formal element of their state visit which will run until Thursday.
