Katy Perry made a surprise appearance at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Sydney, Australia, showing her support for her “old friend” and former rival. The pop superstar took a break from her duties as a judge on American Idol to attend the concert and even shared a sweet selfie with Swift on social media.
During the concert, Perry had a playful reaction when Swift performed “Bad Blood,” the song that was rumored to be about their past feud. In a video she posted, Perry humorously widened her eyes while watching Swift perform the song, seemingly poking fun at the history between them.
The feud between Perry and Swift reportedly began when Perry allegedly hired some of Swift’s backup dancers for her own tour. Swift later revealed in a 2014 Rolling Stone interview that “Bad Blood” was indeed written about a fellow female pop star who had done something “so horrible” that it turned them into “straight-up enemies.”
Perry responded to Swift’s comments with her song “Swish Swish” featuring Nicki Minaj and addressed the feud during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2017. However, the two eventually reconciled in 2019, as symbolized by Swift sending Perry an actual olive branch and their playful interaction in the music video for “You Need to Calm Down.”
Taylor announced The Albatross version
Fast forward to 2024, and Perry’s presence at Swift’s concert was a highlight, along with other celebrities in the audience. The concert also featured special moments, including a surprise appearance by Sabrina Carpenter, Travis Kelce in the audience, and the announcement of a new version of Swift’s upcoming album, The Tortured Poets Department, with a bonus track called “The Albatross.”
The reconciliation between Perry and Swift has been evident, with Swift acknowledging Perry’s gesture of sending the olive branch and expressing that they have been on good terms since then. This reunion and their continued support for each other demonstrate a positive shift in their relationship.
And in another news, it was announced that Swift is officially the #1 most streamed artist in Spotify history, in lead credits, surpassing Drake and becoming the first female artist to hold this title.
